John Rhett Crosswell Bowen
John R.C. Bowen’s family is from Charleston, South Carolina. He is the son of Harold J. Bowen MD and Harriet Maybank Bowen, the nephew of Burnett R. Maybank the former mayor of Charleston, South Carolina, Governor of and United States Senator for South Carolina.
He attended The University of the South (Sewanee) and the University of South Carolina where he received an undergraduate and Master of Arts Degrees. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina. He is admitted to practice before South Carolina and Federal District Courts, the South Carolina Supreme Court, and the Federal Circuit Courts of Appeals for the Fourth and Eleventh Circuits. He is a retired United States Army Field Artillery Officer where he served in Vietnam. He has been active in the South Carolina and Beaufort County Bar Associations and served as Vice President, Chairman of the 14th Judicial Circuit Resolution of Fee Disputes Committee, and as a past member of the Ethics Advisory Committee of the South Carolina Bar. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the University of South Carolina Beaufort, Chair of the Resolution of Fee Disputes Committee for the 14th Judicial Circuit, Chancellor of All Saints Episcopal Church, a member of the General Society of Colonial Wars and South Carolina Society, St. Cecilia Society, Master of Unanimity 418 Masonic Lodge, and is a 32N Scottish Rite Mason.
